Can a Christian lose their salvation?
I've been studying both Arminian and Calvinist views and I'm genuinely confused. Some passages seem to say we are eternally secure, others seem to warn about falling away. What does Scripture actually teach? I want to understand this correctly, not just pick a side.

The key is to distinguish between the security of salvation and the perseverance of the saints. John 10:28-29 is clear — no one can snatch believers from Christ's hand. The warnings in Hebrews are best understood as addressed to professing believers, serving as the means God uses to keep His elect. If someone fully and finally abandons faith, it reveals they were never truly regenerate (1 John 2:19). The assurance of salvation rests not on our grip of Christ but on His grip of us.
I hold an Arminian view and believe the warnings in Hebrews and Galatians are genuine warnings to genuine believers. Salvation is real, but we must abide in Christ (John 15:6). The good news is that God's grace is always available to restore us when we return. The prodigal son was truly lost and then found.
Both sides agree that a truly repentant heart that continues to trust Christ will be saved. The practical takeaway: examine yourself, but rest in Christ — not in your own performance.
